It is an often quoted expression, but to what extent is the following true, and how much is it just a trite saying that categorizes men and women too simplistically?
“Women give sex to get love, and men give love to get sex”.
Well, coming from an “average” guy who has his own experiences to guide him, plus the experiences of many male friends from all kinds of backgrounds and experiences, this author can confirm that the expression is pretty much on the money – as far as men are concerned.
Most men deep down are mommies’ boys. They love to be reminded of how wonderful they are, that they can do no wrong, and that they are simply the greatest. Which is exactly what their moms told them as they were growing up.
And for those men who really are mommies’ boys in their adulthood – there is another problem. The mothers of these men always used to tell them that no women was ever good enough for their little boys. So, millions of men are out there looking for a woman who is like their own mothers in many ways – except for one very important one.
Yes, it’s the dreaded sex element of a relationship.
Men are looking for a woman who, ideally, fits the following definition:
A slut in the bedroom, and a lady outside of it.
So, for women to receive the true love and affection of a man they adore, they need to understand that the above is the perfect female stereotype for a male. That is not to say men expect their women to perform like porn stars in bed every night. Just every now and then. It is genetically programmed into men to be obsessed with sex – statistically, every man has a sexual thought every 10 seconds. Other studies put the frequency at seven seconds. But, whatever, men have it on the brain – morning, noon and night.
Thankfully, though, most of us live in civilized societies where women are spared being dragged by the hair and into the cave whenever the fancy takes over a man. And, on the bright side for women whose libidos do not and never could match that of their husbands, boyfriends and lovers – men are also looking for true love and commitment.
For proof – go to the movies and watch the red eyes of the men as they exit the theater after watching a heart-touching and romantic movie with their ladies. Men are not immune to romance – even if they are brutish animals on the outside. They love a soppy, feel-good romantic comedy as much as women do.
Moreover, commitment from a woman is very important to a man. Just see how many crimes of passion have been committed by scorned or cuckolded men! That’s right, plenty. So, men are looking for a very tricky combination of a highly-sexed lover, a romantic lady with plenty of commitment credentials, plus a personality his mother.
So, we can see, for a woman to be perfect in her man’s eyes is pretty much an impossibility. But, women need to remember that true love, and the desire to create a relationship and a family that will stand the test of time, are things common to men and women. It’s just that the guys don’t like to talk about it as much as the girls do.
